to datarecoveryce.
rebuilt drive with new heads.
powered up, came ready\
read sector 0.
started DE
as soon as DE tried to read drive ID, drive clicked and freaked out and spun down.

now drive wont spin up or ID anymore.
WTF?
Why?
seems like it reprogramed the rom with a fault code and now it wont even try to spinup ?!

I tried to read resources from my donor.
But I can't find any model or family that the pc3k will talk to it.
Its not any of the hitachi or CCB or HPA

How do I deal with this?

It has 5 rom chips.
I found the real rom and unlocked it and wrote it back.
Says its a model 42C
T still doesnt detect as hitachi
hpa
ccb

etc
now it gets DRD DSC
but no spin.....

Thanks

The family type seems to suggest HGST Vela A1. I can parse the ROMs for you if required. A colleague and I managed to dump the SA modules from these drive types at the HDD Oracle. They share modules with SAS models, IIUC.

This is a regular WD drive.
It's common for these drives not to spin up if any heads are damaged.
The drive killed some of the heads when you tried reading user area (seen this too).
