Hello Dveryone.
I’m looking for a recommendation fir a recovery or cleaning service in Europe capable of removing bitterant contamination from a platter. Contaminant: bitterant from dustcan. Brand ISY ICL2000 (Saturn germany housebrand). A lab with good reputation to do this. I've made an earlier post explaining my situation. This was a few years ago. And I just can't set myself to do it. So Im looking for a service. HDD WD blue, 3TB, 3 platters, 2014. Diablo II ? family. I hope it has no platter alignment. Prefarably Germany because I live in NL. But anywhere else will do.
Fingers crossed.
All the best!

(follows in Dutch)

Hello,

I represent RecuperoDati299, a specialized data recovery lab based in Italy. We regularly receive and process critical, "unrecoverable" cases forwarded to us by other European data recovery companies, including fully cleaning flooded or contaminated platters.

We have developed exclusive proprietary techniques and equipment for complete HDD disassembly. To give you an idea, once we reposition the platter stack, we use a highly sensitive custom-built vibrometer, monitored via a cathode-ray oscilloscope, to perfectly rebalance and realign the platters. Therefore, even if the alignment was lost during your attempt, we have the technology to attempt a recovery.

We are willing to take on this case, but before proceeding, we need you to clarify a few crucial details:

1. Did you completely disassemble the platter stack (removing the central clamp/spindle), or did you only spray the top platter?
2. Why was the product sprayed directly onto the platter in the first place? (If only the top platter was exposed, we presume the stack wasn't removed, but we need confirmation.)
3. Most importantly: did you power on the hard drive after spraying it with the dustcan?

Our very first step in the lab will be to verify whether the bitterant and the propellant from the ISY ICL2000 have oxidized the magnetic coating of the platters.

Let us know these details, and we can discuss the next steps.

Hallo,

1. No I have never dared attempt to remove the headstack nor the platter stack.
2. I saw a tiny dustspeck and tried to blow it off with the dustcan. I did not know about the bitterant ingredient.
3. No I have never set power to the disk after this. I only unstuck the heads which on two other drives worked in a selfmade plexiglass case with Hepafilter on one side and airtight hole for vacuumtube on the other that can be closed from inside the case with a lid.

My only concern is. I live in NL. Italy is pretty far away for me. And I dare not send it by mail. Because I don't know if the fane latches in the drive still work to prevent the heads from flying off the ramp again during transit. But I am very interested in your willingness to accept my case.. Right now I am waiting for an answer by 030-datenrettung and datarecovery.eu in Czechia

Best regards.
Daniel.

you're worries can be understood pretty fine

bad a shipping with UPS DHL or FedEx are pretty safe and tested for a long time now

add that point it would make not difference to ship abroad towards one nation or the other when inside Europe

The disassembly, inspection and clean of the platters would cost 200,00 euro

But you will give only 50% Of the clean operations (100,00 €) at the case registration stage together with 30,00 euro of the registration fee (all the amounts are meant VATless)

Then if the recovery succeed and you don't ask a quick recovery (mean choose the longer queue, 4 weeks) the recovery costs 389,00 euro (for the full recovery) or either 299,00 euro (for consumers cameras and smartphones JPGs and videos ONLY)

the 299 or 389 (depending on your choice) will be due only if recovery succeed

but together with it, if succeeded, you will have the remaining 100,00 of the platters clean operations

example
you need only photos and videos and you will choose 299

when the drive arrives you have
30,00 + 100,00

if recovery succeed, you have
299,00 + 100,00

this is net the cost of a donor drive (hopefully you know what is it for)

if a donor drive will be required, it can be purchased by you on ebay with our picture and guidelines (for the cheapest purchase possible)

alternatively you can ask our administration the quotation if should we acquire it

The opportunity to self purchase the donor is a pretty unique characteristic of RecuperoDati299 , ask to any AI the typical policy of the majority (almost all) of the data recovery labs.

Since you unstuck the heads without the knowledge and the special tools , they realistically are bad now and so the need of a donor is pretty sure

Feel free to ask anything you want
