Its not so much the card but the controller. It should be ASMedia ASM3142. Here is the one I got from Amazon.

I saw that card but it says that if it has more than 2 ports then it has a hub integrated and hubs are bad.
I cant tell if the port is shared so its really only 2 ports..

I was looking at this.
it doesnt have a power connector
but seems to have extra power management circuits...

If you want full 5gbps Real Speed only 1 USB Port must be used at a time per card or get a High End RocketU models cards wich has 1 AsMedia Controller per port wich means every one of the 4 ports runs at full 5gbps speed or get a 2 Port AsMedia 10GBPS Card wich split at 5GBPS Per Port.  I have both options and they can run at full 5gbps speed on 4- port RocketU Card or use a single port AsMedia Card at 10GBPS on a Single Port on other branded cards.

I use mine exclusively for the 10G Stabilizer, so there are no speed issues with it.

Its not overkill but you are on the x8 or x16 PCI-E Slot Lanes Requirement.  With up to ASM3142 you still in X4 PCI-E Slot Lanes. I will not sacrifice a GPU Slot for this purpose and 10GBPS Per 1 Port its more than enough.  I use a RocketU with 4 ports at 5gbps each port.  As Tim said for the Stabilizer 10G a card with single port is the best option or a RockerU with 2 independant 10GBPS Ports.  In my case I have a RapidSpar USB Stabilizer PRO with all features includig USB Add-On for my RS Unit Plus One Extra USB Stabilizer Technician included on my R-Studio Technician.  So with 1 single RocketU Card I can run the 3 devices at full 5gbps per port.  With the new RocketU 1344D you can run 4 independant ports at 10gbps per port.

Will the ASM3242 be the same or better than the 3142 as in this x1 USB card

It will be a slightly better but not too much.

You can use this model and they works great with RS or USB Stabilizer up to 10G per port.

I just want to be clear are these ASMedia controllers better than your onboard Intel or AMD based USB controllers or what is the reason for an add on cards and not using local ports ?

AsMedia right now is The Best Compatible controller for RapidSpar and Any USB Stabilizer, Yes they are better over 30% and Trustable than any OnBoard USB Controller, even AMD or Intel and any other IC Like the NEC or VIA.

Deepspar have experimented with many USB controllers and the 3142 is the one they recommend. Other controllers, especially internal controllers, have been found to cause issues with the Stabilizer.

Just got this card
They claim to have better power management.
Some of these cards have extra power in connectors.
Some dont.
So is it better this way ?
