Hi

I am trying to recover this old maxtor.
It had a seized bearing. We loosened it up and got it spinning.
but noisy and no ready.
so transplanted platters to new drive
nice and smooth now.
installed donors heads and just clicking.
installed patient heads
got it to come ready and read all the resources and a good portion of user data.
H0 was very slow.

Now its not coming ready anymore
Its been a while since I recovered one of these.

I am using the pata to sata adapter with the safemode adapter.
So I can boot into safemode.
But I am a little vague on which options to get it reading again using the loaders etc.

Anyway..

I seem to recall something about the servo is only written to one surface.
So inter-head alignment on a headstack is a problem.
That you might need to try lots of head stacks to get one that works.

Is that the case?

Which heads are critical for ready ?

\Heres the fun setup....
