With just the HDD he will get maybe 50% of data back at best. It larger files such as videos it will be even less. But as there will be no file system you, will have to image the whole drive. Which if its had a head swap and as it’s a 3TB Seagate DM may be a challenge (if not impossible). Best to open the drive before committing to anything.
Check the preamp of the Seagate. If you get the first 3 of the serial and the preamp it should be good. No need to get the Apple black version.
