Well, if its in unallocated space you will need to take a physical, which means it needs to be rooted. I just use MPE plus to do those

thanks again!
Root it hey...ok that makes sense. Can you root a phone and leave everything else as it was? I always thought you had to blow the phone away completely to root it.
thanks again!
Depends on the phone. Most HTC phones have a locked bootloader, and to root it you have to unlock the bootloader, and that wipes away everything. There are a bunch of verizon specific phones that do the same thing as well. With the S3 though, they are pretty easy. However, there is ALWAYS a risk that something will screw up and the phone will be bricked. I've done about 40-50 of them and the only one I did that to was the first phone I did, which, happily was my own phone, not a clients. Plus, it was only 'soft-bricked' so I could fix it. I highly recommend that you root a test phone or two first so you can get the hang of it. Find out your exact model number (they are different amongst the different carriers) and then head over to http://www.xda-developers.com/ This is where I learned most of what I know about rooting phones. You can search for your specific device there, and there is a forum for your exact model.Good Luck!
