Dear all,

I have a strange ROM from a Seagate  ST2000DM008 PCB 100870255
Drive went down with others after a wrong PSU cable hookup.
I suspected it was just a PCB swap.

No spin at all with the patient ROM.    I've made some checks and can't find the problem.
Ace also took a look but any attempt to  repair the ROM haven't worked.

With patient ROM on donor PCB on Patient Drive, no spin.

With patient ROM on donor PCB on Donor Drive, no spin.

However, With donor ROM on donor PCB, the Patient spins.

I've attached both ROMs and hope someone who has more knowledge could help figure this out.

Many many thanks

Louis

Immediate thought/solution would be to extract the CAP RAP SAP from patient and write them to donor ROM. Hopefully, the donor ROM is the same FW version.

The CE_LOG is not empty and there is data in the NvCache at the end of the ROM. That suggests that there was a power loss event.

Is there anything in the terminal log?

@Franc, Thank you.  This backs up what the customer reported and what we thought.

Nothing on Terminal on the original PCB, but there is a development.

@DataRecoveryGuru, We had previously imported CAP, RAP, SAP  into another donor ROM and so did Ace but both our modded ROMS didn't work with the same no spin using our donor PCB.

Anyway. we don't have many V15X cases and not many examples of that PCB.  However we recently just completed one and the client left their drive.   Using that PCB + donor ROM +  CAP, RAP, SAP from the patient ,it now spins, although it does spin down. Terminal log is heads.

Given what's happened, I suspect the head preamp is dead.  Progress at least.

Thank you for both your responses.
