Project Steering Committee [open until March 8th]

This is a call for volunteers who are interested in becoming a
DataPortability Project Steering Committee member. This call for
candidates will be open from February 28th 2009 to March 8th 2009.

This position is vacant because of J. Trent Adams’ resignation from
the Steering Committee due to conflicts with his new position as an
Outreach Specialist for the Trust & Identity Internet Society (ISOC)
which prohibits him from being a Steering/Board member. We thank Trent
for all is hard work over the last year and certainly look forward to
continuing to work with him in his new role as an advocate for many of
the core principles the DataPortability Project believes in within
ISOC.

DataPortability.org is an advocacy group dedicated to identifying and
promoting interoperability and reuse of electronic data across vendors
and technologies. Our Mission is to help people to use and protect the
data they create on networked services, and to advocate for compliance
with the values of DataPortability. [1]

The DataPortability Project Steering Group helps manage the
operational aspects of the project and is primarily focused on
oversight of specific community initiatives. The work performed by the
Steering Group is aimed at furthering the goals of the project as a
whole. The Steering Group is not focused on specific project
deliverables, but on supporting the work by the other groups. The
Steering Group is made up of 12 voting members of the project
community who volunteer their time along with the input and guidance
of other participating community members. [2]

In accordance with our Governance Model, Article 4 Section 9 , The
CHAIR may, at any time, at his or her sole discretion, call for a
special election to fill any open seats [3]. The Vice Chair, Elias
Bizannes will be responsible for the operation and certification of
this election if one is merited (more then one candidate steps
forward).

Any active member of the PLENARY may nominate themselves or another
active member to be a candidate for membership in the STEERING group
by posting to dataportability-vote: http://groups.google.com/group/dataportability-vote
[this means that if you are interested you must first register for
that specific discussion list, then post your intentions to be a
candidate for this position including a summary of your interest].

This call for candidates will be open from February 28th 2009 to March
8th 2009. On March 10th 2009, the Steering committee under the
guidance of the Vice Chair as governed by our Governance Model [3]
will announce the election period as merited, with the goal of filling
this open position officially by March 24th.

its Non-profit Public Benefit Charity 501(c)(3) status and effective
within the next few weeks, the DataPortability Steering Committee will
also serve as the DataPortability Project, Board of Directors [see
