Hi!

I just created a german entry for Data Portability in wikipedia. The
link is:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/DataPortability

I have no idea if somebody was working on it already, I hope no work
is doubled here (but I didn't find an entry so I guess it's not the
case). It's based on the english version but I added the group
structure.

Feel free to edit it, add links and so on.

Cheers,

Christian

Hallo Christian !

Bravo for the translation.
One remark : I do not think that the part about the DP project
"Structure" is approriate on WP. It is the kind of information that
makes the article look like an advertisment. It is more about internal
oragnization. People how want to know more will follow the link. they
do not seak this info on WP.

On the other side, I think you can try to write more about DP,
directely in German, and maybe translate it into english after because
the article (en) is still very short.
That is a good exercise to see if we all agree about what DP is. I did
so in french, and Gabriele translated it into itanlien.

tchüss !!

Ask Juan Luis and Pedro to log on.

Well, not sure if this is the ad part. I think the original article in english sounded more like "Hey, didn't you always wanted to get rid of Data Silos? Here's how!" so I think this was more the issue there. But then again it might not be too important to have it there anyway.

I can also directly start in english but I actually would prefer not to flesh out my ideas on wikipedia for everybody to edit their in and so on but to discuss this on these mailing lists here first to reach some consensus what a first step might be. Then we can add that to the wikipedia entries.

(I also started to do this by writing my example scenario to the policy list and explained it also in my podcast).

Yes, from my readings today on the subject, I gather that Wikipedia is not the right place to publish new ideas, or to hold a debate about some topic. It's rather a place where you want to state "facts", whatever those are... I guess you reach facts when conflicting ideas settle down, which the DP project hasn't achieved yet. If we want to avoid the anti-spam censors, we should take a neutral stance with respect to the DP project, state what's "obviously true" about it, without debates...
I guess the same goes about translations: we probably should wait for the thing to settle down a bit before spending too much time on a perfect translation. I mean, we could reflect for long evenings on how to render the meaning of "Create the 'Intel inside' brand" in all our languages, and see the homepage change when we just find a translation we like...
