Dear Evangelists and Steering Group Members:
As you know, DataPortability is picking out a new logo. In early
February we called for the public to help. They responded with over
400 submissions (
http://flickr.com/groups/dataportability/). Over the
last month, our panel of expert judges has selected their favorites
from the pool of candidates. This coming week, the finalists will be
unveiled. Here are some highlights of what is coming up next, as well
as what you can do to help.
====What's Coming Up Next====
1. April 14-18 - The Public Vote: The public voting process will
begin this coming Monday and end Friday at 11:59 PM (PST). The
official URL for the vote will be announced simultaneously on
TechCrunch.com, the DataPortability Public discussion group, and the
DataPortability.org website.
2. April 22 - Winner Announced: If all goes well, the winner will be
announced at the Web 2.0 Conference on April 22, 2008.
====What You Can Do to Help====
1. Pick your Faves: For those of you who are interested in picking
your favorites now (just for fun!), or even browsing through all of
the submissions, logon to the Logo Shortlisting application (built by
Navarr Barnier) and make your picks:
http://www.gtaero.net/dplogo/ .
2. Sound-off: If you haven't done so already, please feel free to
browse through the Flickr pool (
http://flickr.com/groups/
dataportability/) and leave comments on the logos you like.
3. Blog Blog Blog Blog Blog: That's right. We need as much coverage
of the public vote as possible. Please help us to publicize the vote
by covering it on your personal blog, twittering it, or just
convincing your friends and colleagues to vote.
====Other Action Items====
1. Swag: A little swag can go a long way. We don't necessarily have a
budget to purchase swag (t-shirts, mouse pads (who even uses those
anymore?), pens, stickers), but we may be able to solicit donations
from vendors (like Branders.com). Daniela Barbosa suggested
GiantSticker (
http://www.stickergiant.com/) as a potential vendor for
branded stickers. Their prices are more than reasonable and they will
also do overnight jobs (which we may need). Does anyone have a
relationship will a vendor they might be able to leverage?
2. DataPortability.org: With the unveiling of the new logo, we will
need to make some short-term adjustments to the DataPortability.org
homepage, as well as the official DataPortability Wiki. We need a
volunteer to coordinate this process. Anyone willing to take this
on? This process is distinct from the impending redesign of the
entire DataPortability.org site.

Thanks,
Brady
