DataPortability, meet the Liberty Alliance.

Taken directly from the About page (http://www.projectliberty.org/
liberty/about) -

"The vision of Liberty Alliance is to enable a networked world based
on open standards where consumers, citizens, businesses and
governments can more easily conduct online transactions while
protecting the privacy and security of identity information. This
world, where devices and identities of all kinds are linked by
federation and protected by universal strong authentication, is being
built today with Liberty's open identity standards, business and
deployment guidelines and best practices for managing privacy."

The Alliance boasts a huge membership including some of the biggest
players in many different industries, and is also working with various
governments. Take a look at the following link -

http://www.projectliberty.org/liberty/membership/current_members

I suggest we open up the dialogue with Liberty Alliance, and have Cc'd
a few people from the Alliance to expedite the process.

Anyone who hasn't yet looked into Liberty Alliance please refer to
this site - http://www.projectliberty.org/ - as I think you will
notice that many of the issues and opportunities explored in this very
group (DP) have and/or are being addressed through initiatives bought
forth by the Alliance. There is also another "branch" of LA focusing
efforts on open source software in which some of you may be interested
- http://openliberty.org/wiki/index.php/About

Though the aims of these parties may not be identical, I believe
there is room for some collaboration/synergy between DP and LA.

FYI - I'm not affiliated with LA, just a fan.

Cheers,

Devin C. Holloway

Hi Devin,

Have certainly heard of Liberty Alliance - Would very much like to
include their work and members and vice versa!

Do you know anyone there who might like to join in the conversation
can drop us a line here on to me via email?

Chris

Hello Chris,

I don't personally know anyone from the LA. I did, however, Cc three
people involved with the LA in the comment above, so hopefully they
will take this as an opportunity to join the conversation.

Their emails should be a part of the original message if you want to
send them a private email. One is the PR contact for the LA and the
other two are affiliated with Open Liberty.

Cheers,

Devin
