Dear All

Greetings!

I am looking for data on number of mobile towers (district-wise) for any year after 2001. Would be grateful for a lead to any possible source. Have already checked census database, indiastat and data.gov.in

thanks

regards

Hi Maitrayee,

I don't have such contacts myself, but would it be a good idea to try getting such data from someone working with mobile service provider companies? Even in other data of theirs the data for just the number of towers might come out as secondary information.

Hi Maitrayee,

Were publication on the TRAI useful in terms of specific numbers/lists of tower-related information? Also, on a related note, this is taking shape: http://www.coveragemap.trai.gov.in/

There might be an incentive to push for making their data behind the visualization available.

Tejas.

P.S. That map needs a lot of work. Not only are their datasets limited to NCR, MP, and Chhattisgarh, the visualization seemed to crash and reload every single time.

Dear Nikhil and Tejas

Thanks for the replies.
Have initiated data requests with mobile service providers, but not much progress as of now. The TRAI data, especially the one that is available at indiastat.com is circle-wise which does not exactly correspond to the districts level data.
For my own analysis, have now taken a proxy data. The village level data in District Census Handbook 2001 has a variable that indicates whether the village has mobile coverage or not. Have extracted the data and consolidated it for all the districts. So I now have district-wise, no of villages that have mobile coverage. Slightly roundabout, hoping it works :)
