- I was going through 2011, census data. Specially religious primary abstract data.
 - It seems some village/town codes are spread across different subdistricts and districts. Is this common for Towns? Village code 800013 is one such.
- See the screenshot.

Hey Thej,

All villages nest nearly within subdistricts! The code you shared belongs to a “Town” not a village and towns may cross administrative boundaries.

The Village code of 6 digits has been used continuous code within India. Range of 000001 – 799999 has been kept for Villages. The Census Towns and OGs which are treated as urban for census purpose have also been included in the Rural Directory. The town code (only statutory towns) have been numbered within India. The town code range is 800001 - 899999

Thanks,

One reason I could think of is this,
It could be in cases of outer growth (OG). Some towns might be located near district/tehsil boundaries and in a few years, nearby villages get added to the town. Some of these villages could be from the other district/tehsil on the boundary.

Request the community to add other perspectives as well.

Is there anyone who can help me to get villages shape file for the year of 1951 for India?
