Dear All,

My colleague and I developed API wrappers back in 2021 to access APIs easily within R and Python environments (on both CRAN and PyPi - actively maintained). This should be an easy access route for those intimidated by the use of APIs. The wrapper itself can be used to simplify code in applications that need to call in these API.

An excerpt from the readme for those interested :

datagovindia is a wrapper of around >100,000 APIs of the Government of India’s open data platform data.gov.in .  Primarily, the functionality is centered around three aspects :

  • API discovery - Finding the right API from all the available APIs
  • API information - Getting information about a particular API
  • Querying the API - Getting a tidy data set from the chosen API

Here are the relevant repos (which also have the associated documentation):

1) Python : Github/ PyPI
2) R : Github/ CRAN

Since our release, our time during our day jobs didn't allow us to make an effort to publicize this work much beyond Twitter. We hope that you can all add to the packages' functionalities and report any issues/ feature wishlist to us.
