What is the status of having access to these services for developer
purposes?

I believe that status is unchanged from our last discussions. Any
vendor wishing to expose their services over the internet is more than
welcome to , but I do not think it will be possible for everyone to do
so. Therefore if you are capable of doing it let Datafusion know
where the services exist so developers can test them. The idea of
having all the services available from one location seems to be very
difficult to me, perhaps impossible, because we are all developing
these services using different technologies, programming languages,
web servers, etc. I could be wrong however. Etech's services are
still available at
http://etech.railsplayground.net/tunnelcommunications.xml
http://etech.railsplayground.net/recentloads.xml
http://etech.railsplayground.net/todaysloads.xml
We are currently in the process of changing some of these to more
conform to newly established Datafusion standards.

It is understood that in a plant envrionment, each DataFusion provider
may be on seperate servers - given the differences in platforms.

Take a look at the site xmethods.com - this a common place where
companies offer web services for use - there one can call these
services and develop against them. The same thing is offered by MS -
UDDI Business Registry (UBR).

Further an increasing number of software packages are offering APIs
via some type of webservice and allowing developers access to these
services directly from some company test server.

I had assumed that each DataFusion service provider offers some way
for a developer to call the listed services.

The next question I have is, how are Datafusion members testing the
interoperablity of the services without being able to call other
Datafusion members services?

I looked at xmethods.com. It nicely listed publicly available web
services, gave the description of them, and the url in which to access
them from. Most of these web services were hosted on different
servers, this was just a nice common place in which a developer could
look at all available web services in one location. I believe this
for know could be accomplished with a Datafusion Google groups thread
which I will start.
We still have the problem that not every member of Datafusion
currently has their services available over the internet. The
question, which is open for all members of Datafusion to discuss, is
whether or not this should be a requirement? Should Datafusion
members have to make available their web services over the internet so
developers can test them? Obviously this would be ideal and would
make testing the interoperability of Datafusion Services very simple,
and give us added confidence that when we get on site with each other
everything will work correctly. We could then have a nice listing
like xmethods.com where developers could see and test everything. I
wonder, however, if everyone will be able/want to do this? I also
believe that with these simple Rest services that we are creating, I
can know everything I need to know about a particular web service with
good documentation. If a sample of the XML returned is provided, I
can use this sample to test with my services. I also strongly feel
that if all used a common tool such as the free Fiddler program to
test our services with, a lot of the surprises that could turn up
will be eliminated.
I feel this is an important topic and encourage everyone to give their
opinions.

I ended up creating a new page for all of the services available
instead of a thread. It is called Datafusion Web Services Available
For Testing. If anyone has any services available, please let me know
and I will add it the page.
