Dear All,

I met with a researcher from Nuffield College today whose research group might be interested in using Oxford DataBank for storing (and serving) datasets produced by the group. After some discussion to find out the group’s requirements, we agreed that the research group would be an ideal group to pilot the range of data management tools from DataStage through to DataFinder so that the group can see how our services are planned to work and fit together and assist with their data management, and so we can test our emerging services from end to end (as far as we’re able during first half 2013).

Firstly, the research group needs the approval of the research group director before proceeding

However, if that is forthcoming:

Everyone
  • If the research group decides to take part in a pilot, I’d like to arrange a meeting between us all in January so we can sort out how the Centre can make use of each of the elements of the data ‘chain’
  • Wojtek – please let me know if you’d like me to arrange this meeting

Using a separate instance of DataFinder for the research group could provide a solution to support the dispersed group’s data management. If DataFinder is at a suitable point in its development, we might be able to test a hierarchical implementation of DF (ie Oxford DF harvesting a local instance) and which would be a valuable exemplar of how this could work.

Best wishes

Sally
