I've still not heard the MS decision but this event is a good opportunity to raise awareness of DataFlow within the community that would be interested in this project.

It's not just MS technologies but has a weighting in that direction. Most attendees are US based but there is always a good continent from other countries (including UK)

Subject: Call for Session Ideas: 2012 Microsoft eScience Workshop

Dear Ross,

It is my pleasure to inform you that we are hosting our ninth annual Microsoft eScience Workshop during the two days prior to the IEEE International Conference on eScience 2012. This year’s workshop will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago in Chicago, Illinois on October 8-9, 2012.

The eScience community has grown both in terms of size and diversity over the past nine years and yet we still need to ask the same kinds of fundamental questions we posed at our very first gathering:

·         What are the big, open challenges from both a scientific and computing standpoint?

·         Where could researchers in the field use help?

·         How can we as researchers in different domains offer insights and suggest technical directions to assist each other in our endeavors?

We are seeking proposals for sessions and demos that will provide context and then create rich dialog that seeks answers to these fundamental questions. As you think about topics we ask you align your thinking along one of these five cross-discipline areas:

1.       Technology and approaches for scientific data capture, curation, sharing and processing

2.       Advancing and applying machine learning for discovery

3.       Increasing understanding by visualization

4.       Identifying the requirements for knowledge discovery & scholarly communication to support eScience

5.       Qualifications for a new generation of 4th Paradigm scientists

We expect session proposal context to center on applications in broad areas of scientific investigation such as environmental studies, bioinformatics, climate understanding, astronomy, and oceanic studies.

Please propose your sessions here.

The deadline for proposals is Friday, 29 June 2012.

On behalf of our workshop chairs, Dan Fay and Kristin Tolle, I invite you to contribute to the program through your submission of session proposals and of course joining us in person in Chicago. I look forward to seeing you there.

Best regards,
