Security is not coupled to the individual services, but is configured as a cross-cutting concern. By default security is configured to use HTTP BASIC authentication, but if you want to fiddle around with settings, you can also change it (it's spring security based and the main point of configuration would be the WEB-INF/classes/context/security-context.xml file).

Quickest answer/solution IMO is: Your client should use HTTP BASIC authentication, preferably with a admin user.
