Hi everyone!

I'd like to share with you DataCite's software development plans for
2011.

1. schema.datacite.org

This will be more static website then a service. The idea is that we
will support multiple versions of metadata schema. MDS will recommend
a version when you store XML but you will be able to use different
version if needed. Some versions can be retired after we establish
they are not longer in use or there are other good reasons for
retirement. This website should be available in early May.

2. search.datacite.org

This will be service providing user interface for full text searching
of the metadata stored in MDS. UI will be simple, google style. This
service also will have API. API is the core challenge here and we
(DataCite dev team) will seek your participation in shaping the
requirements. The service will be public for UI and probably using
some kind of key for API. This is quite large project but we hope to
have early beta in June/July.

3. oai.datacite.org

This will be simple service utilizing OAI-PMH as a means of exposing
metadata stored in MDS. I have don't time line for this service yet.

Apart from the 3 new services above we hope to get MDS out of beta
around August/September.
