Before starting, launch a capable image application. For this purpose, I find the best is PhotoFiltre, which is super simple, free and has served me well for a couple of decades. Instructions below assume you use this wonderful goody. If you don't adapt to suit what you use.
Then open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat or whatever Adobe you use, and do the following:
View 100%.
Click "Edit."
Click "Take a Snapshot."
Hit Ctrl A.
Hit Ctrl C.
Alt-Tab to PhotoFiltre.
RtClk & choose "Paste as new image."
There it is!
From there:
RtClk & choose "Save as..."
Navigate to a folder of your choosing.
As you SaveAs, JPG, you get a choice of compression. Choose one that squeezes the file size, but does not trash the image quality too much. With a form, you ought to be able to squeeze the daylights out of it.
The JPG will now have a very small file size.
NOW go through the routine of dumping this compressed JPG into DataCAD, and sizing it to suit.
Repeat as needed.
This ought to make smaller PDF files when printing.
Works for me, anyway.

I need to be able to import PDF documents into my Dcad dwgs.
Most current offerings are on a subscription plan where the documents are sent to a service and then re-sent for our use. Being that I do not have more than two projects a year, residential applications, I do not feel that a subscription is a cost effective way to proceed.
I was just reading an Ad for Power PDF Standard 3 by Nuance and I wondered what other small offices are doing in this regard.
It would be helpful if some direction were available.
Thanks;
Dennis Orr

Hello Dennis. What is the "subscription service" you speak of? Do they format the pdf in some way that makes it easy for you to import/insert into DataCAD - i.e. do they convert the pdf document into an image(s) or extract (ocr) text? What format documents do they send to you? What format do you want to use?
As other's have mentioned, and as I have done in the past, I have used graphic image program(s) (typically GIMP) and/or PDF editor programs (Usually Adobe Acrobat - an older stand alone version) to extract the PDF document as an image and then insert that into DataCAD - Is that what you want to use the program you mentioned (Power PDF) to do?

Hi Dennis,
I too have on occasion to import PDF's into DC & use a free online version. See link below:-
As it's free, there are restrictions, i.e. the file size & the DWG I think is all one colour (white) & all one layer. So a some tidying up to do after. The paid for version: ABViewer 10 from CadSoftTools does a lot more & semsgood value for your bucks. link video below on this:-

Bluebeam is an excellent bit of software to work with PDFs. From that software and others you can create bitmaps (bmp, jpg, png, etc) of the pages to insert into DCAD.

Dennis,
I've described this many a time.
See past posts, including one within the past two weeks.
In essence:
View PDF 100%
Edit, "Take a snapshot."
Loop the desired area.
Now that's on your clipboard, in raster form.
Paste that puppy into DataCAD by invoking the Ctrl-V shortcut, following the prompts to save it as a JPG as you go.

Thank you for this information. This worked for a problem I was having with DataCad 12 hard lock error.

DBUG› Cheap Trick - Title Outside Clip Cube
From: Neil Blanchard
Date: Jul 18
Hi Folks,
I just figured out how to workaround an issue, that you may have also
run into - if you have a detail that uses a Clip Cube, you can use a
symbol for the title bubble. By toggling on Ignore Clip Cubes, that
symbol shows up outside the CC - but if the title needs to be longer
than the line in the symbol, it looks wrong.
My workaround is to use a Smart Arrow with the arrow size set to zero,
to extend the line - because Smart Arrows can also be set to Ignore Clip
Cube. And a farther trick is to Copy the smart arrow (after you have
toggled on the Ignore CC setting) to the clipboard - and paste it as
needed. This lets you set the arrowhead size back to your standard.

Hi Neil,
I haven't had trouble with clip cubes like this, but thanks for the tip,
maybe it will come up.
As to the underlining thing, I have a different solution. I set the
text in the title to be underlined, and align the underlining with a
line touching the bubble, which I extend out somewhat, so that the line
always aligns with the title text, regardless of how wordy my titles
become. This should also work in the manner you describe for CCs.
Sample linked. Try it out!
Best,
Mark

It appears O2CViewer App no longer is supported by OS11 on IPAD.
What are you guys using as a work around for viewing models on your IPad?
It was a very handy tool while it lasted.

You can find stuff about O2C in the cloud, whereby you can view with any
device. I get the impression it is intended but never actually
happening, and they just talk about it. The totally uninformative
YouTube videos about O2C on Linux, IOS and Android date back to 2014 and
I guess they just don't have the resources to spread around.
There is an Android CAD viewer that can display 3D models but I think
it's simpler to just use a proper laptop - and surprise! it will run
DataCad too.
