DBUG> DataCAD displaying Chinese
From: Malcolm Blier
Date: May 4 019
I have a remote project in Beijing, a real one-off. I will send them my typical drawings noted up in English, which should be plain enough that someone there can understand or translate. But I also include a block of text for outline specs done in Word which I paste in. I Have a translation program, G4T4, which in one keystroke converts everything into Chinese, which I'll have someone here review for accuracy.
My problem is that (my) DataCAD does not have a Chinese font. Is there a way to convert & import it as something other than a .doc file - too bad there's no way to import .pdf, or is there? Or is there a Chinese font available?
An interesting side note, I had gotten the base CAD file from them with the name in Chinese with the .dwg extension in our alphabet. It would not load until I changed the name into our characters.

to my wordy post -- basically, how would I get a .doc file into another supported file which I assume would not be supported font based. A work-around...

Hi folks,
Prasad Dixit posted a very interesting thread on the DataCAD forum:
The program is called MatterPort, and it models the interior of a building from photos, and places them in relative 3D space.?? Here's a case study that goes over one firm's process:
The video shows that they only had to take overall dimensions, and they scaled the MatterPort file to match, and then traced it is CAD. They don't use the cloud of points, really. But still, very interesting leap in technology and method. MatterPort apparently stacked the plans correctly, and "found" several unexpected features in the building.

I wish there was a keyboard toggle that would change the Print / Setup
between Normal (landscape) and Rotated (portrait) on the fly, while we
are in Quick Layout.

Some images use in sketch up to use as photo realistic back drops for new work.
I use apple quick time viewer to make the movie in real time instead of setting up the views.
I found this technique to be quicker and I could narrate the movie.
Thanks you for visiting!
See you soon

DBUG> ParaText causing drawing crash
From: Joseph T. Deppe
Date: May 13
Hello All,
Since upgrading to the most recent version (20.03.00.04) my drawings crash when I try to use ParaText. It’s seems to be ok when I click the ParaText button but the drawing crashes as soon as I click on the screen where I intend to place the text. I am left with the ParaText window showing on the DataCAD opening screen. I’ve checked several of my old drawings that have ParaText on them already and have the same result when trying to add new text. Have any others had this occur?
Thanks,
Joe Deppe

Hi Joe,
Are you using a keyboard shortcut to get to the ParaText menu? If so, what is that shortcut code?

Neil and Forum,
I spoke with Clay at DataCAD. He was perplexed but suggested that I upgrade to version 21 (Something that I had overlooked) since I’m a subscriber, rather than wasting time trying to figure out what was causing the crash. My problem is solved. Thank you DataCAD and the Forum for always being here when needed!

DBUG> Help Wanted
Date: May 23
Although I think we know most of the people actively using DataCAD in the Boston area, we’re looking for architectural help. It would have to be in-house, full time. Long distance or consulting isn’t going to work for us, unfortunately.
Our work is all commercial, mainly hotels (renovations and new). Lots of steel and concrete.
We have active projects that will be 12 to 24 months in duration, and currently no reason to believe there won’t be more coming (we work with a large number of repeat clients).
If you or anyone you know may be interested, we feel either an entry level or experienced person could be of help to us. I will be the contact person.
Thank you,
