From: Nick Pyner

This is the first time I have had a serious operational problem in
years, but it is certainly with me now
I cannot rotate in 3D. When I go J R it takes me to the 2D Rotate menu.
I did it by mouse select from the 3D Edit menu, the result was the same.
I tried an all-new drawing using a different default file, which I'm
sure is OK. Same result.
I cannot see how I could have set some button by mistake, and I don't
recall being near anything about rotate in the INI file.

It's OK I am back in business.
I fixed it by copying a laptop version over to the desktop in its
entirety, even DCadwin.ini. There did not appear to be any other
p[roblem - I just couldn't get into 3D rotate.
God only knows what that was all about, but just replacing dcadwin.exe,
didn't fix it. I tried to keep the INI file as I couldn't see anything
odd about it, but gave up and edited the laptop one.

I am glad you figured it out, Nick. I saw this post before I saw your
first one; for some reason. Vagaries of email?

DBUG> Symbol Layer Control - and GTV Link
From: Neil Blanchard
Date: Mar 20 2019
Well - there is a surprise waiting in DataCAD 21 - I am reading through
the (revised) 'What's New' document, and I read that when you have Per
Instance toggled on for symbols, you get a mini layer manager for a
symbol. And I thought, okay, that's nice.
Then I read the next section, and it talks about having GTV Link for
each symbol - and that got my attention! This is essentially the same
as GTV Links in XRefs - which have become a key part of our drawings.
So, guess what I am going to be talking about at DBUG tomorrow, here at
Signature Architects?

Did you look for the ARF, or the ARB, or the BAK files? Is there a
RECOVER_ARCHIVE folder in your DataCAD 19 folder? If so, you can copy
the DRF file, and rename it as an AEC file.
Sincerely, Neil

DBUG> Ballon Frame Construction
From: Jerome M Headley
Date: 12 Apr 2019 11:55 AM
To the Forum,
Does anyone have wall section and framing details for “Ballon Frame Construction” who would be willing to share with me?
I have a client who has a 3 unit apartment which is ballon frame construction. The structure (2-story) was being in 1933 and may have been a single family residence originally but I’m haven’t been able to obtain the exact history of the structure. I do know that when my client purchased the structure in 1995, it was already 3 units. When the structure was built, it was at the time when lumbar milling techniques were changing as I can see the saw marks on the original wood framing.
Having to do fire-stopping details for my state Fire Marshal Office submittal.
Appreciate the help.
Take care

DBUG> Conversion of .drf file to .aec file
From: Mike Backler

I accidently copied an older file from a recovery disc to the drawing folder and overwrote the current drawing.
How do I use the recovered file to restore the drawing as best as possible.
Thanks

Hi Mike,
The first thing I would check is the BAK file - if you saved it TWICE as
you exited, then the BAK would be up to date with the last save.
Other than that, I would say you need a to try a program that can
recover a deleted file; which is more difficult.
