Subject: O2c on IPad

My colleague Grett Kett was over for drinks on Friday, with his new
IPad.

He demonstrated an o2c movie. This was done by simply making a direct
movie off the desktop screen of his o2c model. All the movements are,
of course done with mouse on the desktop. This amounts to showing
only
what you want to show, i.e. censorship. The great thing about the
IPad
is that you can stop, rewind and enlarge the view. It is so simple,
yet so effective. He has done similar work with his iPhone, but this
is spectacular by comparison.

I imagine there are more sophisitcated ways of getting movie into
iPad, but this works just fine.

And so convenient.......

Subject: DBUG> Datacad to DWG & ctb file

Our office is interviewing for a project that has the following A/E
submission requirements:

"Electronic format CADD drawings shall have all x-references bound
into drawings. Provide both full size and half-size pen tables (plot
style table .ctb file). Include hard copy printout with layers and
colors and pen definitions and embed a copy into each sheet on a
hidden layer"

Obviously, Datacad can export DWG files just fine. However, I'm not
sure a Datacad pentable file (dpf file) could be edited to work as a
ctb file? Anyone else have to deal with a requirement like this?

It looks like they want a little table on each page saying "this
colour prints this width at this scale". You can probably do that OK
by maiing a symbol. Including the colour also gets round any colour
translation problems.

Subject: RE: DBUG> Wish

You have sent me some before and thanks. I have to agree about going
overboard with either method. I have been thinking about going back to
straight leaders. I don’t use Architectural lettering either because,
at the time, it just made the drawings come out of the plotter slower,
and my logic was architectural lettering was no longer necessary since
that was done to gain speed when working by hand. With the equipment
we have now, that seems unnecessary. Lately I’m beginning to think
arrows at all are unnecessary many times when people use them. Less is
more?

One wish that I have had since I first started using DataCAD was a
dashed linetype that has the same starting and stopping point in a
curve without going funky. The only one I can get to hang to an arc is
the old “Dashed” but it starts out of center. Sometimes you can play
with the spacing to get it sort of right.

At the present I don’t care if CD’s are a work of art. I just want
them to be as easy as possible to read. So line weight are still
highly important to me. Making everything pretty is probably not as
important as having a simple drawing that a contractor might have some
chance of actually reading. Most just turn to where it says floor
plan(s) and ignore the rest.

Side Note: There is something up with either my settings or Google
Groups or something odd as not only my text gets mangled, it seems
like others having the same issue unless I post from my Android phone.

Something Funny and true: One time a guy come inside and asked me how
I did these drawings. “What do you do punch in a code or something.” I
said no it’s just a bunch of lines.

overboard with curved leaders! ;)

A little off topic. You might want to check out 3Dvia for the Ipad.
I've downloaded and played around a bit with a model or two and it
does show some potential:

The Curved Leader Arrow tool in DH Text is even better. One step.

I have a Kustom Keyboard Shortcut for the tool. Exampe steps:

Alt-Q, L-Clk, L-Clk, L-Clk; R-Clk to finish.

Poof! There's a purdy curved-leader with an arrow on the end. Done.
Serpentine curves just as easy: Add another L-Clk to do another swoop.

For amusement, see lo-res screen capture of a drawing sample here:

Greetings,

Is anybody using the curved Smart Arrows? These have the big
advantage of being able to be moved or stretched without distorting
the arrow.

We, like James h, used to use the dHText curved leader tool, complete
with keyboard macro, but switched over to Smart Arrows. We find that
setting the position of the head first and using the tangent option
give very fast and controllable arrows. The editing function is very
good as well.

If I am not mistaken, that feature was added in V14 and would be worth
the price of the upgrade on its own.

mistake. But to each his own.
