From: Joseph Krawiec

Hi,
I'm running V20.00.01.03.  When I hit the 'help' button and then the 'check for update' button, I get the following message:

Host http://www.datacad.com currently unreachable.
Please check your internet connection and try again later.

There is nothing wrong with my internet connection.  I contacted Dcad help and was told to run Dcad as the administrator.  When that didn't make a difference, the only response I received was "Then your firewall may be blocking it."   Apparently Dcad either can't or won't offer any assistance beyond that.  I've been a user since V5, contact the help desk maybe 2X per year  -- I am very disappointed in their lack of willingness to provide me with anything more than this.

I have other programs with similar features and don't have this type of issue.  I'm an architect - not a computer guy.  As far as I know, I don't have a firewall - although I remember hearing about the router box acting (sort of) as a firewall??  Do others have this problem?  Can anyone offer any useful advise?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joseph,

I am not a "computer guy" nor do I run V20… but reckon an "application unreachable" notice is extremely unlikely to be a problem with the application particularly as DataCAD didn't alert to a problem with your release.  So many possibilities exist that it is understandable that any at a distance could not reasonably assist.

Things to try may include:

The connection (though you appear to have nothing wrong with that)
Administrator privileges (again you have checked that)
Particularly in Windows 10 you may be running a firewall without realising it.
As you say you can also set-up many/most routers to provide a firewall
If a critical .exe file has been lost (a re-load should fix this)
If there are elements in something like your Users/nnn/AppData/Local/xxx folder (I don't know if there are) or any folder further up the line (including that folder) if the read-only switch in properties has been bumped the wrong way you would get a message like this. Be wary of fiddling here but if there is a file which looks like a culprit  switching and testing has helped me in the past.
Perhaps even pointers have become mixed up. This may happen when previous files have somehow become the available files.

Good luck with it. After checking the things which you probably have, I would try a de-installation and re-load first.

Regards

Ian

Hi Joe,

For the newest beta, you will need to log into the DataCAD forum and download it.  Otherwise, I think you have the latest version of DataCAD 20.

Good Day All

Please could someone help me.

In the last 2 drawings whenever I move an entity to a different layer or
cut and paste, the moved entity take on the colour of the layer that it
was moved to, irrespective of the colour of the moved object.

Its not a train smash, but very annoying and a time waste.

I do not know what I have done to make it act in such a fashion.

Thanks

Mike Backler

Hi Mike,

There is a toggle on the Move menu called Layer Color - toggle it off,
and the original colors should stick.

Good Evening All

Thank you for the feedback.  I worked it out a couple of days later when
I saw the Layer Colour toggle and tried with it switched on and off.

Hadn't noticed it before and must have switched it on by mistake. Wont
make that one again.

You learn something new every day.

Regards

Mike
