I have written about this before but I get no takers on a solution. I do want to thank those that have emailed me back though..

My problem is to install DataCad on a laptop with Windows 8.1. Everything installs ok, but when I go to launch it I get a "The program can't start because HLVDD.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix the problem". It get the same error message if I have the hardlock installed or not.

I assume you have the latest driver. It 5Mb.

I thought there was an "XP mode" included in W8.1, which I imagine is for
use at times like this.

Hi Donn,

The bottom line is that with any DataCAD version older than v16 with a hardlock, running in Win8.1 is either very tricky and difficult, or not possible.  What version are you currently using?  Is it a hardlock or a soft lock?  Where is it getting installed - what path?

Neal,

I am a MEP Engineer and upgrading to 16 is not going to help me out I do not think as the MEP area has been pretty much ignored. I am still using “ductpro” that I bought probably 25 years ago. We have stayed with DataCad because it is so much easier to use than AutoCAD and Revit. I am feeling though that I  may be forced to that direction.

I did forget to mention that I am on ver.12. It is installed via CD to program files and I did update the hardlock.

I did get reports that others have it working without a problem however it will not work on my laptop.

It might help you out uf yiu can't get 12 to run on a new computer and operating system. Screwing around trying to force a square peg in a round hole you have probably already wasted enough time to pay for the upgrade. How much is your time worth?
