Thought my wife was crazy- a lolli column in the basement is wet, and has
rust stains on it. My wife thought it was a main sewer - but no way---it is
a round lolly holding up a nice i-beam--------but it does have water on it.
There are no pipes in this area - nope not above the beam either. Why is
this column leaking (it is painted).
definitely mystifying !

Condensation. With the right basement conditions, condensation can
form. Used to happen at my mother's house every year. She would open a
basement window on a warm day and it would affect the column nearest
that window to about 4' up sometimes higher. The basement was usually
cool and a little humid.
