Respected Neeraj sir and group members,

I have a query regarding reverse coding of items. I took a standardized scale to measure Time management of students. The research papers in which it was used suggested reverse coding of 5-6 items. I ran EFA to see how my factor structure emerges, though only CFA is recommended in case of standardized scale. I ran EFA before and after reverse coding. Though there was no change in other results, there was substantial decrease in the value of Cronbach alpha from 0.912 to 0.7. What does it indicate and what is the  solution? Is reverse coding not to be applied in this case, or Cronbach alpha 0.7 is the actual one.  Iam not proceeding further. Kindly advise.
Thanks
Regards

There are some scholars who recomends excluding of reverse coded items from analysis. They argue that respondents may not carefully consider reverse items from the lists. That is why your relibility significantly decline from 0.9 to 0.7. So they advise to remove it. Try to exclude them and see the reliability of your result.

Dear Mam
If you used reverse coding first convert your data then run EFA. Like if you used 5 point scale then subtract whole data of reverse coding from 6, then EFA.

Ok sir. So only the EFA results after reverse coding are to be considered.

Thanks & Regards.
