Good Afternoon! Hope you are doing well.
I read several papers on mediation analysis and its methods (Baron and Kenny, James et al 2006, Sobel test, bootstrapping, bayesian estimation, etc) but could not find anywhere discussion about Variance accounted for (VAF), would you please help me to confirm in which method of mediation analysis we use VAF values?.
Thanks in anticipation.

Dear TuR

Yes, VAF was an approach introduced in the 2014 book  A primer on PLS-SEM by Hair, Hult, Ringle and Marko

Later in their next book, they have not used this approach. Hence the scholars also do not mention it now.

Best wishes

Please read these papers. As these authors have used the VAF approach to test mediating effects.

one more query sir!
sir, i inferred from your video and above two papers that VAF approach is a separate method to mediation analysis which gives us type and strength of mediation. However,  I am in confusion, whether the method mentioned by Hair, et. al., (2017) for mediation analysis is bootstrapping method or Heys and Preacher method?. and can use VAF approach in addition to report the strength of mediation.

Dear TuR
I advise using Hair (2017) approach for the mediation analysis. This approach uses bootstrapping method.
VAF may be used to show the strength of mediation.
Best wishes
