Dear Friends

SMartPLS v4 is available for download now. Plz refer to https://www.smartpls.com/smartpls4/

Few things worth noting:
1. You can download this software and activate the student version.
2. In the student version, only a sample of 100 is allowed.
3. Only PLS Algorithm and Bootstrapping are allowed. CTA, IPMA, FIMIX, POS etc are not available.
4. Can import CSV, Excel and SPSS files directly.
5. Moderation diagrams are fantastic as we can put an arrow on an arrow.
6. Additional features of Regression and Process are available along with PLS-SEM.
7. It is possible to keep simultaneously both v3 and v4 in your system.

I've explained these features in this video:

SmartPLS-v4 Download and Install: https://youtu.be/mACl5te2DRY

Protocols of this Group:

1. Plz search previous post in group before posing the question.
2. Don't write query in someone's post. Always use the option of New topic for the new question. You can do this by writing to dataanalys...@googlegroups.com
3. Its better to give a proper subject to your post/query. It'll help others while searching.
4. Never write Open ended queries. This group intend to help research scholars NOT FOR WORK THEM.
5. Never write words like URGENT in ur posts. People will help them when they are free.
6. Never upload any info about National Seminars/Conferences. Send such info on personal emails. And feel free to share any RESEARCH related info.
7. No Happy New Year, Happy Diwali, Happy Holi, Happy B'day, Happy Anniversary etc. allowed on this group.
8. Few months back there was a facility for asking & sharing the Research Papers. Now there is no provision of asking for the research paper here.

Let’s make a better research environment.

Dear Friends

Though maximum features of SmartPLS v4 are the same as that of v3, a few things are different and much simplified.
One of them is the Moderation Analysis

I've explained the same in this video:

Dear Friends

While working in SmartPLS v3, we always get the construct score, which may be used by the scholars for any further processing e.g. in complex models or working with higher-order constructs.

For this, we take the construct score and then save these scores into a separate CSV file, re-import this new file and work further.

This process has been smoothened in version-4 as we have the option of directly saving such construct scores.

In addition, the option of Control Variable is also provided in version-4. Use Control Variable makes changes in the existing model beta and r2 etc.

Furthermore, we have an option of comparing results e.g. we can parallelly check the results with or without control variables.

I've explained all these concepts in this video:

Dear Friends

While working with Multiple Regression, there is always a question, which IDV(s) is/are more important?
There are a number of methods for the same viz.
1. Beta
2. IPMA (Importance Performance Map Analysis)
3. ANN (Artificial Neural Network)

In 2016, Dul has given a concept: Necessary Condition Analysis. In 2020, Richter, Nicole Franziska; Schubing, Sandra; Hauff, Sven; Ringle, Christian M.; Sarstedt, Marko wrote a paper When Predictors of Outcomes are Necessary: Guidelines for the Combined Use of Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA)
This is available on https://findresearcher.sdu.dk:8443/ws/files/171889276/Manuscript_accepted_version.pdf
The authors propose to use NCA along with PLS.

I've explained the working of NCA using R-Studio in these 2 videos:
R-Studio Part-42 Necessary Condition Analysis Part-1: https://youtu.be/WuQkgGl4JY0
R-Studio Part-43 Necessary Condition Analysis Part-2: https://youtu.be/1-7Xbt1flq4

Now, SmartPLS v4 provides this feature under the menu of Regression.
I've explained this in this video:

Dear Friends

Though we use Process Macro (in SPSS and R) for handling the complex models but the limitation of this is that we can work only on the given 92 models.

For working with any complex models, different from the 92 models of Process, we may use SmartPLS v4.

I've explained the same in this video:

Dear Friends

For a long time, the developers of SmartPLS argued against using the Model fit indicators but in recent years (last 5 years), there are papers that use various information criteria for comparing 2 or more structural models.

Available on https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/IMDS-10-2019-0529/full/pdf

Both of these papers used the various information criteria proposed in this paper
Prediction-Oriented Model Selection in Partial Least Squares Path Modeling by Pratyush Nidhi Sharma et al (2018)

The authors made an excel file for the computation of various information criteria.

Dear Friends

In last week's update of SmartPLS v 4.0.9.3, the SmartPLS team also incorporated CB-SEM (Covariance Based Structure Equation Modeling).

I compared the results of AMOS and SmartPLS by working on the same dataset. The results of the measurement model are very close, but the structural model differs a little.

I've explained the working of CB-SEM in SmartPLS v4 in this video:

Dear Friends

When we work on SMartPLS regular PLS algorithm, the software computed z-scores of all variables/items.
Hence in the structural model, we never get any intercept here.

However, if we wish to work with intercept in regular (simple or multiple) regression, we can use the option Regression.

This can be done directly if we have metric variables or by extracting the construct scores after running the structural model analysis.

I've explained Multiple Regression Analysis in this video

Whenever we have a binary dependent variable in our model, we can and should use the Logistics Regression Option in SmartPLS. Including the binary variable in the model is not correct.

Recently (Feb 2024) a new feature has been added in SmartPLS: Model Comparison.
We can now compare 2 models in SmartPLS. This is done by the criterion of comparing Predictive Validity.

Dear Friends

We can use the Model comparison for comparing models containing lower-order constructs with another model containing higher-order constructs.

The following are the steps for the same:

1. Make the base model consisting of ALL lower order constructs.
Their role in the model will be the same i.e. IDV will be IDV, Med will be Med,...
Report reliability and validity (convergent, discriminant and predictive validity of each lower order construct).

2. Save lower order construct scores and make the same model (made in Step-1) again.

3. Change lower order constructs to higher order and report reliability and validity (convergent, discriminant and predictive validity of each higher order construct).

4. Use Model comparison to show the model with HOC gives better prediction than model with LOCs.

I've explained the same in this video

Shreya,

Follow the step-by-step instructions for SmartPLS 4 installation of the student version

I have covered both options, namely
a) in case you have an earlier version of SmartPLS
b) fresh installation of SmartPLS 4 on your computer

Hope this helps!

Regards

Dr Raja Sankaran
