Dear All,

I am empirically investigating my framework of quality in Indian Services.
Cronbach alpha is above 0.7. I have done Factor Analysis using  SPPSS 20 for dimension reduction and checking cross loading.
My question is for construct validity i.e. checking Convergent and Discriminant Validity should I use inter item correlation matrix? I have 50 items so the matrix is huge.
or Can I check validity using AVE? Can factor loadings be used to calculate AVE in SPSS. I cannot use SEM in AMOS due to some variable being categorical.
What is the best way to do it in SPSS??

Dear Shradha Gupta,
Greetings of the day!!!

if variance extracted between the construct  is higher than correlations square, it means discriminant validity is established. It is possible to check discriminant validity in SPSS. In pattern matrix under factor dimension, there will be constructs. you can calculate the AVE using the factor loading of the constructs then u can compare with correlations square.

Thanks & Regards

Respected mam,

In an AVE analysis, we test to see if the square root of every AVE value belonging to each latent construct is much larger than any correlation among any pair of latent constructs. AVE measures the explained variance of the construct. When comparing AVE with the correlation coefficient we actually want to see if the items of the construct explain more variance than do the items of the other constructs.

thanks

I understand the theory behind it. My question was if I can use it if  factor analysis is done in SPSS. How to calculate AVE in this case?? Can I use factor loadings given in pattern matrix as beta for calculation of AVE??
