Respected all,
I have a question related to the fsQCA Venn diagram. In the video link I shared below, the presenter shows the final results using a Venn diagram. My question is, why are we using the raw coverage percentage values in the diagram? Consistency values are usually considered when presenting results.
Please clarify this for me.

Thank you

Dear Yasra

The reason raw coverage percentage values are typically used in fsQCA Venn diagrams, particularly for depicting the final results, is that these diagrams are primarily designed to illustrate the empirical relevance or empirical coverage of specific conditions or combinations of conditions. Raw coverage directly quantifies the proportion of cases that exhibit a particular set of conditions, providing a visual representation of how widespread or frequently a given configuration appears in the dataset.

While consistency is crucial for evaluating the extent to which a set of conditions is a sufficient (or necessary) condition for an outcome, the Venn diagram's purpose in this context is more about showing the empirical overlap and the proportion of cases that are covered by different configurations. Consistency values, while vital for interpreting the causal link, are typically presented in accompanying tables or text, as they represent a different aspect of the analysis—the degree to which the outcome is present when the condition is present.

In essence, the Venn diagram visually emphasizes the empirical presence and overlap of conditions (coverage), whereas consistency values provide the analytical rigor regarding the sufficiency or necessity of those conditions for the outcome.

One more thing, the flower sort of the diagram is not the Venn Diagram.

I hope this clarification is helpful. Please feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Best wishes
Neeraj
