Respected Sir and members,

In case of regression does a negative t-value of a particular IV indicate that it is a negative predictor of the DV? For e.g. I have found that marital happiness is a significant predictor of psychological well-being, but the sign of t-value is negative. Does it mean marital happiness is a negative predictor of psychological well-being? But this doesn't make sense.

Am I interpreting the negative t-value incorrectly?

Please help!

Thanks in advance!

Sign of t-test is never seen. Just refer to its p value. If p is less than 0.05 it means that your regression coefficient is significant

The results seems to be interesting. Lesser martial happiness is leading to higher psychological well-being. May be the respondent have reported honestly in your survey.
As far as reporting standards are concerned, you must report confidence intervals and the value of beta must lie between the two. Make sure that zero should not lie between the confidence intervals, else the results are insignificant.

Refer to saari et al. (2021) paper in ecological economics journal and Hair et al (2019) paper on when and how to report results in pls sem. These papers are perfect to report SEM results.

Only Beta, confidence intervals are enough to report SEM results

So sir did you mean to say that the negative t-value in the regression table result indicates that the IV is a negative predictor? And positive t-value indicates that it is a positive predictor?

Also if I am not wrong SEM is structural equation modeling, I was talking about regression. I have used SPSS, not PLS.

Dear Shilpa

A negative Regression coefficient (unstandardized or standardized) in the regression table result indicates that the IV has a negative effect on DV.

I advise you to attend any workshop on SEM as well as Regression to understand the differences between these. Do remember SEM=CFA+Regression

Best wishes
