Using SmartPLS for secondary data collected from annual reports?

Dear Sir and group members,

I wonder if SEM can be used when we are dealing with secondary data that were not collected through a questionnaire, instead, data from annual reports.

I know the reliability and validity is centered around scale usage, when I think of this, i say, SmartPLS can not be used for data other than scale based data.

But I did not find a source to support this view.

so, I thought, maybe it could be used to run these models based on secondary data but no need for model measurement, and again it brings me to questioning what is the purpose of running a model without reliability and validity measurement.

Please share your point of view on this aspect.

Why not Excel or SPSS?

Actually sir I am not working on any of this, But I found a question in a group, someone asking about missing values and mediation analysis while his data are secondary from annual report.

So I started wondering about the possibility of using SmartPLS for the same with no reliability measures. and I could not find anything through googling, and then I came here to see if anyone here has seen any similar case.

can process macro be considered in such cases? or is it invalid to test mediation on this type of data?

I am just curious about reliability and discriminant validity. :)
