Small project - helping replace dots with graphical pins & tooltips on D3 globe

We're really close (we think) to implementing a 3D rotating globe design with graphical pins & tooltips, but we're not able to attach the pins to the globe.

We could really use a D3 expert's help on this - it might only be a half day's work
