Civis Analytics (https://civisanalytics.com) is looking to hire a Data Visualization Specialist.  This is a full-time position and requires that you work from our Headquarters in Chicago, IL.  Remote work is not possible.

Position Overview - Data Visualization Specialist

Data Visualization Specialists are responsible for converting data into captivating, elegant visual representations to help our clients make better, data-driven decisions. You will work to interpret and portray data to tell stories that inform our partner organizations how best to allocate resources, understand their user and customer audience, and solve their organization’s biggest problems. Additionally, your work will drive the next generation of data visualization software products.

You will work collaboratively with other developers, designers, and data scientists, to bridge the fields of engineering, storytelling, design, and data. If you define yourself as part engineer, part designer, and part analyst, this role is for you.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, HCI, Information Design, a related subject, or commensurate work experience
  
• Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis and analytic approaches in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
  
• Expertise in mapping and visualization (D3, Tableau, GIS, or others)
  
• Commanding grasp of HTML, CSS, and Javascript
  
• Proficiency with SQL
  
• Demonstrated design and UX sensibilities
  
• Familiarity with building web applications (we use Ruby on Rails)
  
• Interest and ability to master new languages and technologies
  
• Familiarity with statistics and modeling
  
• Comfort manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, unstructured data from varying sources
  

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years of experience of building reports and dashboards
  
• Experience working with data-distributed query tools a plus (Hadoop, Hive, Presto, etc.)
