The GIRL Center at the Population Council is seeking data visualization designers and programmers to lead projects focused on global public health. We are creating an array of data viz tools for clients such as the Hewlett Foundation, the Children's Investment Fund Foundation, and the Gates Foundation. Our analysts complete the data analysis and give you clean data to work with. We are seeking creative and talented people who can make our stories come to life.

Type of contract:
  • The funding for this body of work has been secured. We are seeking contractors/consultants as well as smaller businesses. We pay you an hourly, daily, or monthly rate.
  • We are looking for long-term partners who we can work with from time to time as we secure new funding.
  • The initial set of work will need to be completed by end of September. Based on the quality of your work, we anticipate additional work that will need to be completed by December.
Qualifications:
  • There are no education or years of experience requirements. All we want to see is past examples of your work and talk to 2 references.
  • We don't have any tech requirements. You can program in whatever language you want as long as it satisfies all the requirements of what we want the final viz to look like.
  • Past relevant examples of work we want to see:
    • interactive visualizations built for the web or that can be embedded into a website
    • visualizations with a back-end database that our analysts can routinely update with new data
    • visualizations that have several filters and are easy to navigate. We don't need things that are too complicated because our audience is busy decision-makers like donors and policymakers.
Interested candidates should email their CV/resume, along with at least 2 relevant examples of past work to Sarah Islam, Manager of the GIRL Center, at sarah...@popcouncil.org. Hiring is done on a rolling basis.
