Map and Data Visualization Designer

Bloomberg Graphics seeks a freelance designer to help us expand our internal charting and mapping tool. As more features are added, we’d like to work with someone who can think through data visualization and map design choices. Your work will help guide the graphic forms that will be used by hundreds of Bloomberg journalists worldwide. The role requires about a three-month, full-time commitment.

While members of the Graphics team will help oversee the process, you’ll work with editors, reporters, visual journalists and developers to gather requirements and present findings in stakeholder meetings. You’ll also work directly with our engineering team as they build out features and guide an iterative design, feedback and development process as the product grows.

We are looking for someone with a passion for detail and knowledge of mapmaking and data visualization. Newsroom experience is a plus. You should have a solid understanding of visual hierarchy, color theory and perception and basic cartographic principles. Our product generates charts and maps with D3 and Mapbox, so knowledge of these tools or their output is helpful.

If you are interested, please send us an email at gfx_h...@bloomberg.net with a resume, a portfolio and a brief letter telling us about yourself. Include a link to your Github account or website if you have one.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
