Hey everybody!
I'm looking for interesting, creative dataviz developers who can ideate, prototype, and develop high-quality work. More details are below on tech skills and experience. The candidate should overlap with a NYC/Boston-based team for at least 6-8 hours a day. Location in Boston preferred.
This is a brand new group so it's an awesome opportunity to grow skills and push the art of the possible – woohoo!

Send portfolio and CV to: Jason_...@mckinsey.com

The Data Visualization Lab is an experimental studio that pairs advanced dataviz techniques with design thinking to communicate business insights.  Our group works across practices so one day you might be working on a tool for the visual exploration of a big data set and a week later you might be making a data-comic, or charts for an AR environment. We prize interesting people that have a broad set of skills and want to always learn more.

You will need to have a very deep background in data visualization, and software development in general, with proven expertise using D3 and other frameworks. Bonus points for previous experience in design, data science, or data engineering. We believe in the power of teamwork, so you will closely collaborate with a designer to understand the data, prototype the visualization, and engineer the visualization.

Once we return to in-person work, the job will be located out of the Boston area and work travel will be likely.

You will:

·       Collaborate with subject matter experts and designers to understand the data and create a prototype of the design

·       Engineer projects that are pragmatic, scalable, visually appealing, impactful, memorable, and inspiring

·       Collaborate with tech leads and other developers to create documented, modular and performant code

·       Work in an environment where innovation is prized and developing new skills is prioritized

·       Ensure interactive modules are compliant with McKinsey engineering guidelines and standards

Essential skills

·       3+ years D3.js expertise

·       Knowledge of data visualization process, trends, and history

·       Proven expertise with notebooks like Observable or Jupyter

·       3+ year’s experience in data engineering and/or data science

·       5 year’s experience developing websites, products or services that balance user needs, business objectives and technological constraints

·       Extensive portfolio of projects that reflect the above

·       Curiosity, presence, humor, and maturity
