The Data Studio Developer Relations team is excited to announce an improved authorization flow for connectors using viewer's credentials. When a user views a report with a data source configured to use viewer's credentials, they will be prompted to authenticate the connector (if they haven't already).

A user visits a report with a data source configured to use viewer's credentials and they are prompted to "Authorize now"

The user goes through the normal authentication flow for your connector. First they authorize Data Studio to use the community connector:

Then, they go through the connector's auth flow. This example is for a connector that user USERNAME_PASS for the AuthType.

After the user completes authorization for the connector, they land back in the report they were initially trying to view

This makes it easier to share reports configured with viewer's credentials since in the past, users that hadn't authenticated the connector would see a general error message.

If you're wondering what viewer's credentials are, see Data source credentials.

Happy Coding,

Matt
