MySQL 8 server was recently released.

It includes a WITH clause, which makes writing self-joins simpler and easier to explain.

On the GIS side, there is now a SRID, spatial reference identifier, so the spatial system of a column can be defined.

The text, slides, and support materials have been updated. The revised version of the text should appear in a day or so on Amazon.
