Dear all,
Good afternoon.
Does anyone know of any deliberate initiatives by the government to open up data to citizens apart from the budget website and the new askyourgov.ug
Many thanks,
Grace

Ministry websites hold substantial amounts of data. For example the Educ ministry publishes the results of the annual school audit.

AFIC did it in partnership with the government- I should have specified that. That's why I am sort of mentioning it

Just a few remarks:

the URL for UgandaInfo 7.0 is
http://devinfo.org/ugandainfo/libraries/aspx/home.aspx

We tried to include most of this data, especially the sub-national data on
data.ug. If you still miss any that you think should be on data.ug please let
us know.

The EA data is interesting. I browsed the education one:
http://www.eac.int/statistics/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=62&Itemid=153
It says Uganda has some years a more than 100% enrolment rate in primary
education, but it has the lowest secondary school enrolment. Interesting
factoid.

Other initiatives I know of:

http://www.watsup.ug/ (oh dear, it seems to be down, it used to have all
100.000+ waterpoints in uganda)

There is still http://m4water.org/maps/m4wmaps.php which uses some of the data
from watsup, but doesnt have national coverage.

http://www.him.or.ug/ Not a government project, but a bit similar to
askyourgov

Here is a map with data from the energy sector. Its not all open data, but you
can see a lot of info gathered by the combined players in the energy sector
http://www.gis-uganda.de/Energy-GIS/
(and here is a map with info on where GIZ is doing energy-related projects,
just to stay with the theme)
http://www.gis-uganda.de/WebMap/

And of course http://www.ubos.org/ is publishing a lot of data.

And as Lydia mentions, a lot of information is currently burried in .pdf files
on ministry websites.

rgds,
Reinier
