startTime given by attachSource or initialize are ignored when calling preload or attachView

Hello,

we have an issue using attachView in combination with startTime and we'd like to fix it.

we have currently two alternate PRs to mitigate the issue:

We would prefer the latter because the first one might be a bit confusing. 

For the Feedback Agreement: I am working on it, but since I do contract work I need to talk to my client about this.

I'd like to know if I am going in an acceptable direction and have a chance of being merged, before I proceed, and do the work on writing tests and examples.
