we have just prepared the release candidate for dash.js version 5.2.1.
Big thanks to all the contributors who made this possible.
We would like to ask you for some help testing this release. We greatly appreciate your help to verify it is free from regression. Any help, feedback, comments will be really appreciated.
We are aiming for the release of version 5.2.1 on August 17 2026. You can find all the issues and pull requests of the milestone here. For testing you have the following options:
- Use the release candidate branch: https://github.com/Dash-Industry-Forum/dash.js/tree/RC_v5.2.1

- New setting hybridSwitchBufferTime to control switching between the BOLA and Throughput ABR rules (robertbryer)
- Initial track filtering by codec string (dsilhavy)

- The capability event now reports all remaining AdaptationSets present in the manifest, not just the selected ones (robertbryer)

- Refactored and reordered the samples section, with a more prominent link to the reference UI (dsilhavy)
- New hevc.js sample demonstrating HEVC playback in browsers without native support (privaloops)
- Fixed autoload in the reference player and added an option to specify the target MPD (dsilhavy)
- Content steering demo updated with a LiveSim2 reference and BASE_URLS_UPDATE handling (dsilhavy)
- Test app can now be built from an npm pack artifact (dsilhavy)
BUILD, CI AND TESTS
- Substantial CI/CD optimizations: reduced redundant work, split PR workflow, deduplicated linting, webpack caching, consolidated master deploys from four builds into one, and path filters for deploy-specific and doc-only changes (PascalThuet)
- Corrected unit tests that passed without actually verifying behaviour and improved test reliability around FileLoader errors, state cleanup and debug logging (PascalThuet)
- Faster unit test runtime through updated test configuration (dsilhavy)
- GitHub Pages integration and a new npm release chain (dsilhavy)
