Note : Client is looking for a Sybase/SQL DBA in NJ who has Exp (50% Sybase /50% SQL)

OBJECTIVES :

 

The principle objective of this position is to provide primary Application-Dba support and secondary Systems-Dba support for the clients applications and databases.  This position requires extensive PROD support experience with Sybase & MsSqlServer Databases, and an application oriented skillset preferably with prior Application Dba experience or  a Database development background.  It requires in depth/ expert knowledge of SQL, T-SQL/ stored procedures, triggers, db/ app security and Sybase/ MsSqlServer programming in Unix & Windows environments. Key responsibilities include db/ app optimization, data modeling, deployment of application schemas, account provisioning and supporting application releases. High skill level in Unix, Windows environments, OS troubleshooting and unix shell/ command shell/ power shell scripting is required. We are looking for a highly motivated, proactive and energetic individual who can equally support complex Sybase and MsSqlServer environments in a fast paced financial environment.

 

STATEMENT OF WORK :

 

  • Provide 24/7/365 primary application dba support for Sybase and MsSqlServer to perform db, schema & account provisioning, app  db security & schema/ data management  for application releases and adhoc support; maintain data delivery/ archival flows to & from the MsSqlServer/ Sybase data warehouses. Manage related script repositories and processes
  • Provide 24/7/365 secondary dba support of all Sybase ASE (12/15) database & Replication Server (12/15) systems on Solaris SPARC, Solaris x64 and Linux and for the Equity business in North America. Provide 24/7/365 secondary dba support of all Microsoft SQL Server 2000/2005/2008 clustered and non clustered databases
  • Supporting the business on-call after business hours and weekends on a rotation basis for Sybase and MsSqlServer is required
  • Expertise in each of these is a major requirement. Sybase IQ experience will be a plus.
  • Lend database design, development, tuning & optimization expertise to application development and support teams on an ah-hoc or continual basis. Participate in App performance SLA certification during UAT
  • Proactively monitor all database systems utilizing vendor supplied and the clients standard tools including Sybase MDA reporting, Sql EM/Profiler/DTS and Mgmt Studio/SSIS, CA Unicenter TNG and CA Insight
  • Maintain complete inventory and documentation of deployed systems and supported apps.
  • Work with the client workstation package development & deployment team to develop database client software install and upgrade packages.
  • Work within the project management framework defined for IT Production North America.
  • Cross train members of the Database team in all responsibilities and maintain a daily and weekly rotation schedule for these.
  • Liaise with application and business clients to gather requirements, design and deploy standard systems which clearly differentiate between production, development, UAT/QA, and DR.
  • Identify operational and infrastructure risks within the environment and work with the application development team and Equity business to make corrections and mitigate risks.
  • Ensure that all systems are backed up and monitored according to the business requirements and notify the data owners when there are failures.
  • Ensure optimal resilience of deployed systems and meet all disaster recovery and compliance requirements dictated by the business. Deploy Sql Mirroring/ Replication/ LogShipping, Sybase Replication/ LogShipping and EMC SRDF solutions
  • Maintain top-notch technical skills and business knowledge through proactive self-learning in addition to any formal instructor-led training provided by the client.Interface with external vendors in toubleshooting complex, cross-platform issues.

·         Provide comprehensive cross-training for ITP engineers and support personnel on front-line database client troubleshooting and support.
