TheCity acknowledges that many golf cart owners would like to see Main Street as an approved location as well, however the data currently shows traffic volume is too high. FDOT has indicated Main Street may be evaluated after the first two crossings have been in place for one year so that data can be gathered and evaluated on the safe operation of these intersections.
The North Port City Commission has determined that golf carts may safely travel on or cross the public roads or streets identified in Section 74-152(b) of the Code of the City of North Port, Florida, as set forth in Section 2.01 of the ordinance. The operation of a golf cart is only authorized on designated city roadways where appropriate signage is posted in compliance with F.S. 316.212(1). City Commission designated the following roadways:
Atwater Drive; Biscayne Drive; Chamberlain Boulevard; Cranberry Boulevard; Haberland Boulevard; Pan American Boulevard; Panacea Boulevard; Price Boulevard; Salford Boulevard; San Mateo Drive; Sumter Boulevard; and Toledo Blade Boulevard.
Hi all. Im on the dream for the new years cruise. By any chance are there golf cart (or similar ) rentals at any of these ports? I know they rent scooters but my gf really doesn't care for them. Also I know you can rent cars but we kinda want something small and different. Thanks in advance for all your help.
The answer is no for Nassau and I would strongly advise not to rent a scooter wherever you are... not safe at all. As for St. Thomas I doubt as it is mostly either straight up or straight down... golf cart would not do the steep hills plus if shopping it's close.
We did a tour in one of those open air vehicles and going up to mountain top, my friend was scared to death that we would fall off the cliff (remember we were driving on the LEFT side, next to the cliff) and every time we had to do crossroads, it was pretty wierd trying to figure out the lanes to me.
St.Thomas is good place for Jeep rental. The only problem is that the rental place closes a 5pm which means you have to bring it back earlier than you want to. especially if the ship doesn't leave till 7 or 8.
Thanks for the info everyone. As far as driving close to steep cliffs I should be ok. At least I hope so lol. The jeep rental sounds like a good idea. I don't mind turning it in a couple of hours before the ship leaves. At least I know I won't be late. Anyone know more or less what the cost might be? PS about the driving on the left hand side. I figured that out the hard way in the Bahamas a couple of years back. Lol probably the main reason the gf doesn't want to rent a scooter again.
It was about $90 last time we did it...just keep this in mind, we learned the hard way...the drivers license and credit card have to be in the same name...my hubby wanted to drive and brought his drivers license but I brought my credit card and they wouldn't let us rent the jeeps because the names have to match...
Nassau is totally safe. People trying to make a living. We felt totally safe there. We walked up and down the streets all day with our children and did not feel unsafe at all. Some of the richest people in the world live across the waterway at paradise island where atlantis is. Its fine. Don't let anyone scare you, All the people we met were very friendly and kind.
actually i have not. i actually just booked a jeep from budget for the day. is it a people moving ferry or a car mover as well? what is there to do there? i have to admit i have not done enough research on this island lol. thanks
I think "safe" was directed at renting a scooter, not the people/neighborhoods of Nassau. Seen too many inexperienced scooter drivers in unfamiliar surroundings running off the road, hitting curbs and falling over, etc. Some pretty nasty scrapes and worse.
There are people ferries and car ferries beween St. Thomas and St. John. Most car rentals will not let you take the car off the island so make sure that is OK before you do it. St. John is a gorgeous island and is about 2/3 national park so it will never be developed. The north shore especially has beautiful beaches. If you're only going for the day I don't know the car rental would be worth it. If you want to go to St. John just take a cab from the ship to Red Hook and the ferry to St. John. You can get an open air truck/taxi/shuttle from the dock to a beach. Trunk Bay is very nice. It is a national park so there is an entrance fee and it can be crowded since that is the beach where all the day trippers go. It has an underwater marked snorkel trail that is nice. There are lots of other beaches that can be less crowded. Honeymoon Beach is beautiful and there are others such as Hawks Nest, Cinnamon, Maho, etc. Every place is great but you really need to stay on island to get a real feeling for it. Since it's your first trip I would probably just stay on St. Thomas. There I would rent a car and drive around the island. Just keep the time in mind because the traffic is horrific between 4 and 6 and I think every car on island is on the road leave Charlotte Amalie. St. Thomas is a great place too that we really like. Have fun.
Thanks for the info. I did not even think about the rental agency not allowing me to take the jeep off the island. Although I booked with budget and it says unlimited mileage. I will call to make sure. Does anyone know if the rental jeeps are standard or automatic? I would prefer a standard just because it will be more fun to drive through the hills and stuff with a standard. Thanks again.
Yes ask Budget about that but its like 60.00 RT to take the car ferry over, plus if something goes wrong with your jeep like a dead battery for instance you our on your own and if you miss the ferry back then you know how that goes:eek: Yes all jeeps we have rented are automatic:pSince its your first time on STT i would just explore this for the day, We usually go down thier every year for 10 days so if you want some extra advise about out of the way places PM me. The other side of STT is beautiful and has its own special things to offer that cruise ship pax dont usually get to do with out a car
