Hi everyone,

Some of you may have noticed that we have transited to a new mailing system, kindly provided by the Alumni Relations Office. It just came to my knowledge that some folks on the old mailing list may have missed out on the more recent emails. To get on the new mailing list, please do update your contact info with the alumni relations office.

New Students and DUAL April Events

Dear Daniel,

I thought I should share some details of our new student welcome event held over the weekend. As you can see from the photo, we had a good crowd of nearly 20 alums (in fact, some people left before we took the picture). Four students admitted to the Class of 2019 were present: Alya, Charlotte, Samuel and Tadeas. They are a great bunch of people, hailing from all over the globe. We welcome them to our community.

Many thanks to Jenney '89 and her husband Brad for opening up their home.

Kate '88 has kindly volunteered to organise our next gathering, likely evening drinks in May. Watch out for more details.

Some people have asked about getting onto the mailing list. The most straightforward way is to update your address with the Alumni Relations Office. We use an email system provided by the college so all emails are automatically sent to everyone with addresses in Singapore. Some also asked about sharing of contact details. Due to privacy considerations, we cannot share personal contact details. The best way to know who else is in Singapore is to come and meet everyone else whenever we have events! We will try to do more to create such opportunities.

As usual, details of the DUAL events for Apr are appended below.

Daniel

1. Thursday, 23 Apr, 2015 06:45pm - 08:15pm - Understanding and Integrating Strategic CSR: the Risk Mitigation Way; Dr. Amy G. Lehman, MD, Founder of Lake Tanganyika Floating Health Clinic/WAVE.

Synopsis: How can companies and investors reconceptualize corporate social responsibility, especially in the frontier markets? Instead of domiciling CSR in the marketing department, or sequestering it under separate "sustainability" headings, corporations need to understand the role of community stabilization, peace and security, health, education, and infrastructure in terms of long-term risk mitigation and integrate CSR into their core business strategies for long term success. Multinational Corporations and Private Equity often are required to make large upfront capital investments in frontier, fragile states where they hope to operate over the long term. Strategic CSR in partnership with local experts can lower the cost of doing business and mitigate risks in uncertain environments. Getting this right could mean the difference between success and failure, especially with respect to many countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
