Hope you are all having a good “summer”!

 

DUAL is starting to form interest groups to cater to the various interests of our alumni.  We currently have the DUAL Finance Breakfast interest group and are kicking off the DUAL LGBT group.  Please see below for more info.

 

We will be holding a DUAL Ball in 2015 and are looking for organizing committee members.  Please let me know by 7th July if you are interested and we will hold our first organizing committee meeting in July.

As one of the founders of the Nanyang movement, Liu Kang played a key role in the development of Singapore’s first celebrated and locally conceived artistic style. His large body of artworks express a unique Southeast Asian identity and are distinctive through its use of bright colours and bold outlines. This talk will explore the life and work of this prolific Singaporean artist, from his early beginnings as an artist through to the creation of some of his most well-known paintings. Our speaker for this talk is Durriya Dohadwala, a independent art writer whose articles have been published in print and online magazines and journals. She is a volunteer with Art Outreach and a docent at the Singapore Art Museum, where she guides contemporary and modern Asian art exhibitions. She graduated with a Masters degree in Asian Art Histories from Goldsmith College, University of London. To register for tickets, please visit

The LSE Department of Management, together with the LSE Alumni Association of Singapore (LSEAAS) cordially welcomes you to a speaker and networking event with its Executive Global MSc. Management Programme (EGMiM). The Executive Global MSc Management Programme is visiting Singapore for its overseas module as part of the 17-month Programme. The EGMiM cohort is hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) for the week and consists of 24 ambitious, career-driven directors, managers, and executives from all over the world and from very diverse backgrounds, with up to 15-years of work experience. The cohort will be accompanied by Professor Om Narasimhan and Dr Connson Locke from the Department of Management. The event is a platform to meet and network with executive students, faculty and staff of the LSE's Department of Management, as well as the alumni body over a buffet dinner and drinks! About the Speaker: Andrew Naylor, Executive Director, Cicero Group Andrew leads Cicero’s Asia Pacific office in Singapore, working on a number of international and high-profile communications and research projects. He joined Cicero in 2008 and prior to his current role in Singapore managed Cicero’s monitoring and intelligence service, NovaRes. Before joining Cicero, Andrew worked in the external relations department at the UK Conservative Party as a communications officer for the business relations team, and as a researcher for a cabinet minister in the House of Lords. He is a graduate of both the London School of Economics and the College of Law of England and Wales. OverTheRainbow.sg (OTR) is a one-stop hub for youth mental wellness. OTR is an initiative under the WholeTree Foundation for Youth Wellness, founded by Yen-Lu & Yee Ling Chow in loving memory of their son Lawrance Chow who suffered from manic depression and passed away at a youthful age of 26. Our mission at OTR is to propel mental wellness to the top of life's priorities by empowering youths with practical hands-on wellness strategies, provide information, assistance and support to youths suffering from mood disorders, along with their caregivers. We also aim to shatter the taboos surrounding mental illness, promote social awareness and to build a loving community founded upon the principles of love, compassion, truth, generosity, joy and service.

 

OTR Volunteers Program Manager (up to 2 days per week) – Paid position

 

Job Description:

·         To work with a young and dynamic nonprofit organisation in the area of mental wellness and holistic wellbeing. 

·         Work closely with the founders to recruit, train and manage a team of volunteers; primary responsibilities including the management of the Guardian Angels (GA) - to recruit, train, manage the Guardian Angels, and help develop and evolve the GA system

·         Ethos: attentive listening ear, caring compassionate heart, open nonjudgemental mind set.

Qualifications:

·         Strong people orientation, with excellent interpersonal skills

·         Strong communication, coordination and logistics skills

·         Strong enthusiasm and belief in volunteerism

·         A strong knowledge of volunteer issues; to deal with issues / challenges of time management,  volunteer burnout, keeping volunteers motivated and taking care of volunteer welfare

·         Strong sense and knowledge of ethics and boundaries

·         Some background in coaching, mentoring, or counselling a plus

·         Minimum 3-5 years of volunteering experience or working with a volunteer organisation
