Saturday, 18 Oct, 2014 09:00am - 12:00pm - Walking Tour of Historic Tanjong
Pagar and the Telok Ayer Coastline
King’s College London Alumni
Society Singapore cordially invite you to a historic walking tour of Tanjong
Pagar and the Telok Ayer coastline. The tour begins at Keramat Habib Noh and end
at UOB Plaza. Today’s Tanjong Pagar was where Tanjong Malang, Mount Palmer,
Mount Wallich and Cursetjee Hill were once located. This particular area was
home to many different groups, as illustrated by the diversity of the
architecture, e.g. a Hakka Taoist temple, a Yemeni mausoleum, a Parsi graveyard,
and Keramat Habib Noh (where a local Sufi saint is buried). The next part of the
tour will follow the original Telok Ayer coastline and includes the former Mount
Erskine, Nezha temple, Datuk-Kong, a holy Hokkien shrine, the former Oei Tiong
Ham office, Mazu and City God temple, and an underground mosque by Boat Quay.
Prof. Widodo will explain details of the sites as we walk along the route. After
the tour, we plan to lunch at at a venue to be confirmed.

Preparing for the Next Phase in the Monetary Cycle
Rates in the US
are poised to rise. We have had unprecedented levels of interest rates, held low
for an unprecedented period of time. Whilst this has led to the healing of the
US economy, unfortunately it has also led to unintended consequences leading to
the coining of the term "financial repression".

As the United States scales down economic stimulus, how will
other countries, especially significant Asian economies like Japan and China
prepare for this next phase of the U.S. monetary cycle? In particular, will
China which has recently injected liquidity into her banking system, be a global
game-changer? Looking at China’s actions in light of changes in the US monetary
cycle, how will a smaller economy such as Singapore be affected? What global and
local implications will there be for asset allocation, real estate financing and
the outlook of the property market? To find out, join us for our NBS Alumni
Affairs' Weekend Focus Point Series on 'Preparing for the next phase in the
monetary cycle', with our speaker Mr Vincent Kok. Mr Vincent Kok is an NBS
Alumnus from the Accountancy Class of 1991, and is currently the Chief
Investment Officer of Delphi Capital Management (New York, USA).
