Dear DART team,

I am currently running multiple simulations using DART on a voxelized forest scene and would like to optimize the computation time.

I would appreciate it if you could review the settings I am using. I am not fully confident in my understanding of all DART parameters, and I am unsure whether relying on the default settings is appropriate for my use case.

At present, I have:

  • Defined a broad spectral band corresponding to photosynthetically active radiation (PAR),
  • Set the sun position for a specific date and time.

My objective is to run a large number of simulations at different times. In this context, I would like to know whether using the sequencer could help reduce computation time or improve efficiency.

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Kind regards,

Anne Baranger

Dear Anne,

Some files are missing (please have a look at the attached screen copy: it indicates missing files).

Usually, the best is to zip the inut folder of the simulation and to Email it, or to upload it somewhere if it is too large for Emails (then, you simply provide the link).

I noted that you use an old DART version and that you use the DART-FT mode.

When you send the needed files, I will continue investigating your simulation with the objective to optimize it.

Best regards

DART Team.

Dear Anne,

I am going to analyze your simulation and will let you know. I plan to improve your DART-FT (discrete ordinate method) simulation and will create a DART simulation (Monte Carlo). Hopefully, DART will be more efficient than DART-FT for simulating the radiative budget of your forest.

Concerning PyTools4DART, I have added 2 persons to this Email:

- Florian de Boissieu (florian.d...@inrae.fr): the daddy of Pytools4dart

- Yasmine Karray (ykar...@gmail.com): PhD student at CESBIO (France) and Sfax (Tunisia). She is using quite a lot Pytools4DART with the latest DART version.

Because DART is continuously improving, at time some inconsistency can appear between DART and Pytools4DART. I remember Yasmine met such an issue and solved it. I advise you to try the DART latest version (https://sdrive.cnrs.fr/s/t9fWMnqC5QHAeW3) and to let know Yasmine and Florian your issue with Pytools4DART, if there is still an issue.

Pytools4DART is a great tool!

Since you are working with forests and are interested in Foscenes, if I well remember, Tiangang Yin (tiangan...@gmail.com), the scientist in charge of Foscenes, is also copied.

Best regards

Jean Philippe
