I don't want to update to the pro version of smart defrag and I don't want to have the smart defrag update message nagging me to update it each time windows starts. I am content with the defrag contained in ASCU. So, how do I disable this update message?
May I know why you don't want to update Smart Defrag to the latest version to enjoy better features, please? If you don't want to get the update message, you can click the button "Remind me later" at the left bottom of the update message screen.
Well it's like this... my C: drive is a SSD and as far as I know ASCU takes care of the trim and there is no need for more defrag functions there. Then I have a 1.5TB storage drive (D:) that doesn't get fragmented enough to justify any defragmentation software at all, or at least the ASCU defrag takes care of this well enough for my needs. On another note I think it is far to expensive for MY needs. And as a small parenthesis I have (when I needed it several years ago) found a freeware that was totally awesome at defragging, did it so completely and at such speed it totally blew the competition out of the drives. I won't name it here, but I could give it to you in a personal message if you'd like.
Yeah, I want to know this as well. It seems like the app is updated, what seems like, twice a week. And then we are harassed into updating the app. I paid for all of these apps, but I am still harassed constently!
Smart Defrag can trim your SSD to improve your disk performance. Althought Advanced SystemCare can care your disk, Smart Defrag can provide more comprehensive optimization of all your disks. That is, Smart Defrag can improve the disk more professionally. Please send me a PM about name of the program you got and the better features you valued.
That's nice, Cicely, but how do I keep it from running at all? It's not on the startup list where every single other company puts their update checkers. How do I stop Smart Defrag from running anything on startup? At what point did IObit decide that I shouldn't be allowed to keep it from running anything unless I wanted to? What else is it doing that I'm not allowed to have any control over?
Hi! I seen an old post here and its look like that there is no option to disable the auto-update . I am looking for a chance if we can disable the update through the firewall settings. but i think this is how their system works.
May I know why you don't want to update Smart Defrag to the latest version, please? It won't pop up after you update. If you are a Smart Defrag Pro user, it is recommended to enable Auto Update in Settings.
found a way that works --right click the shortcut (in this case driver booster because i don't have smart defrag installed) open file location find AutoUpdate.exe. use the program IObit Unlocker (it's free) and rename the file to something like AutoUpdate.exe.bak so it will never run. but you can still use the check for updates manually to update all iobit programs
I'd never boot up Windows 11 if Adobe products worked on Linux. I get 500Mb download speed in Linux (the fastest speed my connection is capable of) and in Win 11 I get 100Mb despite inhaling every update and updating the WiFi driver. Even tried TCPOptimiser. No dice. I may have to get an M1 Mac just for Adobe stuff :/
Is there any way to disable the update notification box? I like having the program run at startup, but am getting very annoyed with the popup window that always appears when a new version is available. At the very least, disable it so it only appears when the program is brought into focus, not loaded into the system tray.
I am speaking of the windows dialog box that pops up when the program is loaded that states "a new version of smart defrag is available. Update now? Yes/No". Clicking yes opens to the iobit website and a download link.
I'm looking to find a way to disable this popup. I can easily see when a new version is available from the news crawl at the bottom of the screen. The popup interrupts the screen when the system boots since I have smartdefrag set to run at startup.
And following the reports of mishaps for a few users, is not a good policy in my mind. If something is wrong it is a good thing that these mishaps gets reported - it will in the long run give a better product because it will be looked into by IObit.
The problem here is that the person experiencing the "problem" feels that it is one of the most important things around, - BUT this is seldom the case if looked at from the viewpoint of the company. They have to prioritize the "problems" that gets reported.
I believe we are all asking how to disable update notifications and if the answer is they cannot be stopped then let us know that and not the benefits of having a popup stop the computer from loading. The problem not the benefit here is that I am updated to the current version 2.2 but the old 2.0 notifications is still there and I only see one version 0n my computer . So to keep getting prodded to update an already updated version is the problem .
I believe we are all asking how to disable update notifications and if the answer is they cannot be stopped then let us know that and not blow smoke about the benefits of having a popup which stops the computer from loading especially when you are already up to date .
The problem not the benefit here is that I am updated to the current version 2.2 but the old I think, 2.0 notification is still coming up there and since I only see one version 0n my computer to keep getting prodded to update an already updated version is the problem . Again if we request to stop it you can either say ok this is how to do or or WE wont let you do it because you cant . Not spouse the benefits of updates.So........
P.S. I think that users on this thread wish to be able to disable the update notification if they have SmartDefrag set to run on boot-up as they think it interrupts the boot process, and for whatever reason they don't wish to upgrade. I have no way to test this without re-installing an older version. I don't see how the notification would interrupt the boot, as it is only the result of one service that doesn't affect Windows!!
To disable the anoying notification pop-up (that cannot be disabled through the settings somehow!) you can just disable the scheduled tasks in windows task scheduler (to be ran as administrator). That's it.
Hi there
Downloading "Smart Defrag 8 Free" by clicking on your website(the green buttons) route me through MajorGeeks - which is fine - but the download is not correct.
It arrives as "smart-defrag-setup" - with no file extension. I was reluctant to change the file myself to "smart-defrag-setup.exe" even though scanning it shows no malware - as it could still be something like a fishing link... who knows?
I downloaded "smart-defrag-setup.exe" via a link posted by Cicely in this community forum as "Smard Defrag 8" (sic) - but I'm suspicious by nature so I'm sending this feedback here, and also posting it at the forum...
If the green button on your main Smart Defrag 8 webpage is corrected to download "smart-defrag-setup.exe", I will try your new version 8.
Thanks
Supersoul
I had Norton remove Smart Defrag Pro on two different machines, one Windows 10 and one Windows 11. The version downloaded from the cdn.iobit server seems to have held for now. Another interesting discovery, I downloaded the app and installed it successfully on the Windows 10 machine. When I simply moved it to the Windows 11 machine on a stick, Norton detected it and deleted it after it was installed. When I downloaded from the cdn.iobit server directly Norton scanned and approved it.
I have have the same issue with the new version of Smart Defrag. Webroot rejects the .exe due to a potential virus/malware it does not like. This happened on the MajorGeeks download AND on your suggested provided link as follows: -defrag-setup.exe.
